President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to focus on the excellent work that he is doing in the capital.
Tinubu urged the Minister to ignore “busybodies and bystanders”.
The President made the remarks at the inaguaration of newly rehabilitated International Conference Centre, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
He went to the inaguaration after landing in Abuja following a 13-day stay in Lagos, where he participated in ECOWAS’s Golden Jubilee aniversary and the celebration of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.
At the newly rehabilitated rpject, which was overseen by the FCT Minister, Tinubu said, “You represent us as a people of character, determination, and great spirit. I am pleased to see you reflect these qualities.
“Ignore the busybodies and bystanders; no matter what they say, keep up your excellent work.
“You are a transformational leader with the foresight and determination to succeed. Thank you very much.”
Tinubu also revealed the condition of the centre before the rehabilitation work, he said, “When I attended the conference of ECOWAS Parliament here, it was a very dirty, disorganised, uninhabitable environment.
“Aside from the side talk with the Senate President, I turned to Wike, I said, ‘But this conference centre is not reflecting who we are. Have we sunk this low?’
“He said no, but bear with us. We’ll do whatever we can do to transform the place. You won’t come back to find it in a dilapidated, uninhabitable situation as it is, and today I am very happy.”
Wike has taken significant moves since the President appointed on August 16, 2023.
Recently he sealed the headquarter of his own political party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over unpaid ground rent.
