President Bola Tinubu will travel to Benue State on Wednesday to hold a town hall meeting with relevant stakeholders after a deadly attack struck the state.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made this known in a statement on Monday.
According to Onanuga, the President’s initial schedule was to visit Kaduna State on Wednesday to commission several state government projects.
Tinubu, however, will be in Benue on that day and in Kaduna on Thursday, June 18, 2025.
The statement read, “The President’s visit aims to assess firsthand the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction.
“In preparation for the visit, President Tinubu has already dispatched the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees to Benue State.
“The President is expected to hold a town hall meeting with all stakeholders during the visit.”
Over the weekend suspected herdsmen attacked the Guma Local zgovernment Area of Benue and killed scores.
Local leaders said death toll from the attack could surpass 200, as entire families were burnt alive.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, visited the state on Monday and ordered the deployment of more tactical forces to combat the terrorists.
