Controversial singer Darlington Okoye, best known as Speed Darlington, has tendered a public apology and said that his recent admittion to rape was a marketing strategy to promote his new song.

Darlington, who had gone viral after stating in a recent video that he had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old minor, faced widespread condemnation for admitting to being a pedophile, with many demanding for an investigation into his conduct.

Reacting to the critics, the singer, in a new video posted on his Instagram account, said he had to make such controversial remarks in order to trend and to get booked.

He noted that a singer who is not trending does not get booked.

Darlington also said his genre is about sexual intercourse, implying the reason for the remarks.

In his words, “All my followers pissed off about the video I recorded in which I spoke about me sleeping with a 15-year-old, I am an artist. I need controversy to eat. If you are not trending, you are not getting booked. Simple! Nobody is booking something that is not trending.

“I have a new song now. The song is talking about f*ck this, f*ck that. This is my genre. I do not perform Christian music. When I dropped my song, I needed f*ck contents to push it.”

Briefly.ng learnt that Speed Darlington’s had previously be embrolled in a controversial, where a mother confronted him for sending a text message to her 16-year-old daughter.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, however, had informed the public that the singer’s case has
Been forwarded to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for his conduct to be investogsted.
