A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, Segun Sowunmi, on Tuesday revealed that there’s a strong possiblity that he may dump the PDP for the All Progressive Congress.
According to him, if he iw going to back President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, he will defect to the APC to support him.
Sowunmi, who made this known during his appearance on Arise TV’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday, served as the spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 election.
SOWUNMI’S REMARKS
“If I am going to support Tinubu in 2027, by God and everything that is in me, I will leave and join his party,” he said, as reported by theCable.
“I don’t believe in the nonsense that says you are in one party while supporting someone else.”
Sowunmi also faulted the PDP for failing to resolve its crisis, saying he’s been a loyal party member for 28 years.
He noted that he has called on the party members to reform the PDP but nothing has been done.
“I don’t have time for pretence, if I’m not there, I’m not there. I have been in PDP for 28 years and most of them don’t even have that record of 28 days.
“If I’m going to leave to support the president, I will damn say that I’m going. Why will anyone with sense in his head stay in a party when you are telling them to repair the party?
“I have screamed and shouted that we needed to reform the party. There is a very strong possibility, looking at what is going on in my environment, looking at my state where I come from, looking at my tribe and desire – there is a very strong possibility that I may likely leave,” he added.
Sowunmi’s remarks come after he visited Tinubu at his Lagos residence and described him as a smarter politician compared to his rivals, Atiku and Peter Obi of Labour Party.
