The former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, on Sunday said he will run for the office of the president in the 2027 general election.
Obi, in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme, dismissed rumours that he may become running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
He noted that he his qualified to run as presidential candidate in the 2027.
“I’m going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I am qualified for it,” he said.
“[To run as Atiku’s running mate] is not in play; nobody has ever discussed that. People assume so many things. Nobody has ever discussed with me whether I am going to be A or B or C.”
Obi, who served as the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, said he remains a valid member of the party.
He, however, confirmed being a part of the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress.
According to him, the coalition has the capacity to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
“I am part of the coalition which will be able to produce a president with the capacity and compassion to save this country,” he added.
