Mr Rotifa, a Vice Principal of a school in Ondo State was reportedly assaulted by suspected thugs after preventing a student from engaging in examination malpractice with his smartphone.
According to reports, Mr Rotifa was targeted following the interception of an Android phone from a student during the ongoing West African Examination Council (WAEC) exam.
Briefly.ng learnt that the Incident took place at the Complete Child Development College, Aule, Akure, the capital of Ondo State, on Monday, May 26, 2025.
The Vice Principal seized the SS3 student’s phone on that day and on Thursday the student’s mother stormed the school to fight, leading to the return of the phone after the school’s proprietor gave the order.
The student elder brother, who is an old student of the same school, visited on the same day to harass and threaten the Vice Principal.
A report by the state’s Director of Schools, Ministry of Education, added that the student’s elder brother and his boys were loitering in the street after school hours.
The report stated that the “proprietor was informed who told Mr Rotifa to go to the police station to lodge a complaint.
“He went and two policemen took him in their van to look for the boys probably for arrest.
“They couldn’t get them. On their way back to the station, the boys waylaid the Police van, stopped it, brought out Mr Rotifa and beat him up. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
“According to the principal of the school, he has been discharged from the hospital but did not go back to his house for the fear of the boys coming back for him. Further investigations and efforts to get the culprit are in progress.
“Arrangements for the safety of the staff and students of the school for period of the remaining papers in WASSCE are ongoing.”
