Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday signed into law a bill that suspends cooperation with the United Nations’s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Iranian Parliamentary passed the bill last week after the country’s nuclear facilities were attacked by Israel and US.
The Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, the Supreme National Security Council and the Foreign Ministry have received the bill for implementation.
Briefly.ng learnt that the bill effectively barred the IAEA investigators from inspecting the country’s nuclear facilities, and for any outside inspectors to visit the sites would require an approval from the Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
The law read, “The government is mandated to immediately suspend all cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency under the Treaty of Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons and its related Safeguards Agreement.”
The Middle Eastern country has not signed off on its participation in the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty,
Iran had came under attack a day after the IAEA passed a resolution accusing the country of failing to meet its obligation under the non-proliferation treaty.
Since the war ended the IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi has constantly requested access to visit the nuclear enrichment sites to access the level of damage, but Iran has rejected his request.
Some Iranians have accused Grossi of spying for Israel and say he should not be allowed back into the country.
