Former Governor of Kaduna State, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Friday resigned from his position as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress.
Ganduje’s personal belongings have been evacuated from the APC Secretariat in Abuja, and the party’s North Deputy National Chairman Bukar Dalori has stepped in as acting national chairman.
The reason behind his resignation remains uncear, but mwny reports are suggesting that it may be linked to the party’s strategy towards the 2027 general election.
Speculation is growing that President Bola Tinubu may not contest the 2027 presidential election with Kashim Shettima as his running mate, and according to the APC constitution, Section 14(2)(iii) empowers the deputy chairman to act in the absence of the chairman, especially if from the same geopolitical zone.
A source within the party has named former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, as favourite to become APC next National Chairman.
Bashir Ahmad, the media aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari wrpte on X, “The National Chairman of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position, effective immediately, as confirmed by multiple sources.
“The former National Chairman of our party would be succeeded in acting capacity by one of the party’s national vice chairmen until a substantive chairman is elected at the national convention scheduled for December 2025.”
