Elderly man falls into deep well while trying to recover phone in Oyo

The Oyo State Fire Service has rescued a 68-year-old man who fell into a deep well while trying to recover his mobile phone.

According to reports, the incident occured in the early hours of Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the Mobolorunduro mosque, No.30 Ajeigbe Street, Molefalafia, Oke-Ado in the Ibadan South-West Local Government Area pf the state’s capital.

The operatives of the fire service rescued the man alivr and handed him to his family.

Adebayo Akiinwande, the Special Adviser to the Government on Fire Service Reform, confirmed the incident and blamed the man for entering the well without proper training.

He added that the ministry was contacted at exactly 06:10am and ACFS Adedeji swiftly led the fire service to the scene.

“On getting there, it was discovered to be a man of about 68 years of age trapped inside a deep well of Mobolorunduro Mosque while he was solely trying to recover his lost phone in the well,” Akiinwande said, as reported by the Punch Newspaper.

“The firemen swiftly swung into action by tying all necessary knots and observing precautionary measures.

“The man was rescued alive and handed over to his family for proper care.

“The cause of the incident was as a result of ignorance, not knowing the danger associated with entering a well without properly trained.”

He urged the public to stay clear of activities that could put them in harm’s way and reiterated Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to safeguarding lives and properties in tbe state.
