The striker for Al Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo, on Saturday confirmed that he will not be playing in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup tournament in the United States.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Portigal’s UEFA Nations League final against Spain on Sunday, he said he’s had offers to play in the tournament but he can’t be at every competition.
According to him, a number of clubs have reached to him – some of the offers make sense – while others did not.
“I will not be at the Club World Cup,” Ronaldo said. “Some teams reached out to me. Some made sense and others did not, but you cannot do everything – you can’t catch every ball.”
The tournament is scheduled to start on June 14, 2025.
The 40-year-old’s contract with Al Nassr is due to expire at the end of this month, fueling speculation that he may sign a short-term deal with a club playing at the Club World Cup.
Fifa president Gianni Infantino has also expressed his desire to see the all-time goalscorer at the competition alongside Lionel Messi who will be playing with Inter Miami at the Club World Cup.
But Ronaldo said he’s not interested in making a short-term decision and noted that decision on his Future is “almost done”.
Several reports have suggested that the Manchester United and Real Madrid legend won’t leave the Saudi Pro League side and will sign a new deal with Al Nassr.
