A Lafia High Court has sentenced gospel singer Timileyin Ajayi to death over the murder of a National Youth Service Corps member, Salome Adaidu.
The presiding judge of the high court in Nasarawa state, Simon Judge, found Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide.
According to Aboki, the offence is punishable by death under Section 221 of the Penal Code of northern Nigeria.
The singer had confessed to murdering Adaidu in January, 2025, and said that his action was driven by anger after she allegedly cheated on him,
“I didn’t plan to kill her,” Ajayi said. “She is always cheating, she hides most things from me. I discovered she was cheating when I saw her phone, so I got angry seeing her chat with other guys, and that’s why I killed her.”
Ajayi was caught in January after the severed head of the NYSC member inside a polythene bag was found on him.
He was arrested at the Agwan Sarki, Orozo, a border area between Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory.
During interrogation he claimed Adaidu was his girlfriend and they dated for one year, but the deceased family dismissed Ajayi’s claim, saying their daughter never dated him.
