Chelsea have reportedly agreed to meet the £30m release clause in the contract of striker Liam Delap with Ipswich Town.
According to Sky Sports, the Blues qualification for the UEFA Champions League was not the key factor behind his decision to move to the Stamford Bridge followong Ipswich relegation from the Premier League.
His likelihood to challenge for major trophies, Enzo Maresca’s style of play, a young squad, and the opportunity to play alongside players he’s already familiar with at the club were main factors.
Delap played alongside Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia during their time at Manchester City, and also worked with Maresca and recruitment co-director Joe Shields in the North West.
The 22-year-old is said to have watched Chelsea’s Europa Conference League final against Real Betis on Wednesday and expressed his satisfaction with the Blues’ second-half performsnce.
The club will now engage with Delap’s Representative to discuss his personal terms, with the “discussion expected to be a formslity ahead of an evential medical”. medical
The Blues are expected to be busy in the summer and to sign more attacking players as well as wingers as they prepare for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
