Former Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai has dismissed claim that suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked his convoy in Borno State.
Buratai, in a statement issued by his spokesperson Sani Usman on Monday, described the claim as “baseless rumours”.
According to the statement, the former army chief, who also served as ambassador to the Benin Republic, had his Eid al-Adha celebration in tbe Federal Capital Territory and has been in the capital ever since.
The rebuttal comes after Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South Senatorial District alleged on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday that the former army general was attacked in the state.
The statement read, “For the avoidance of doubt, he celebrated the Eid festivities peacefully in Abuja, in the company of family, friends and well-wishers, and has remained within the Federal Capital Territory since then.
“This baseless rumour is a product of the reckless imagination of the purveyors of fake news, individuals whose sole aim is to malign him, spread fear, confusion and misinformation.
“The fabricators of these actions are not only mischievous but also deeply irresponsible and must be condemned in the strongest terms.”
The former general l thanked well-wishers who reached out to him to confirm his well-being.
Buratai served as the Chief of Army Staff from July 13, 2015 to January 26, 2021, under the former President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
