Manchester United captain and Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes has decided to continue playing at Old Trafford and turned down enticing offer from Al Hilal.
According to Sky Sports, Fernandes’ decision came after discussing the offer with his family.
The 30-year-old joined United from Sporting CP in 2020 and has gone on to make 290 appearances for the club, scoring 98 goals and providing 87 assists.
Al Hilal tried to strengthen their squad with the signing of Fernandes ahead of their participation in the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States after a disappointing season in which they lost the Saudi Pro League title to Karim Benzema’s Al Ittihad and also the Asian Champions League.
The club offered to sign him for £100 million and to almost treble his current £250,000 weekly wages at the Old Trafford.
Fernandes’ contract with United will run until the summer of 2027 with the option to trigger a one-year extension.
The midfielder believes he still have more to offer top European clubs and United also do not want to sell him.
Head coach Ruben Amorim expressed confidence that the midfielder will stay at Old Trafford when asked after United’s 3-1 friendly win over Hong Kong.
Ameorim said he did not think so.
In his words, “I don’t think he wants to leave – although I’m not sure, but I think he wants to stay.
“He [Fernandes] is saying no to everything, that shows he really wants to win. He is really good – he needs to be in the league.”
