Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South Senatorial District has earned that he may leave the ruling All Progressive Congress if President Bola Tinubu cannot resolve the challenges facing Nigeria.
Ndume, who is a serial critic of Tinubu’s government, made this known during his appearance on Arise TV on Tuesday.
He also cautioned the APC against accepting every defector from other political parties, noting that failure to do so would collapse the party.
“I still believe President Tinubu can fix things,” ndume said. “Failure to fix those things may cause me to leave the APC.
“If Tinubu continues this way, it doesn’t matter if he loads more people or governors, you are just endangering the APC. When you overload a ship, it might lead to the capsizing of the party.”
The senator also recalled that former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, was on the side of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, before the APC 2022 presidential primary, only to switch camps and back Tinubu.
“El-Rufai was supposed to be on our side but somehow, he moved over,he said. “I think these are part of the things that are annoying or frustrating him.”
The lawmakar added, “He was on our side. Amaechi’s side. Before Tinubu was nominated, he made up his mind to support Tinubu, and Tinubu, as he rightly said, said that he should not leave and that he should come on board, join the government.”
El-Rufai, in a recent interview noted that he has no ambition but wants to be instrumental to Tinubu’s defeat in the 2027 election.
The former government said he played a major role in Tinubu’s emergence as president and his administration has failed. He claimed that the current government has a disapproval rating of 91 per cent.
In his words, “I have no ambition; I just feel like having contributed to bringing about this tragedy to Nigeria by contributing to the emergence of Bola Tinubu as president, I should, in my last lap, contribute to removing this evil that I believe will destroy Nigeria if left unchecked.”
