Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Friday dismissed reports that the National Assembly disgraces Senator Sani Musa of North East.
Akpabio, in a statement he personally signed, noted that the upper chamber couldn’t have disgraced Sani because it “operates on principles of respect, order, and integrity”.
He clarified that it was untrue that the Senator was “rubbished” for “allegedly failing to define the word ‘harmonised'”.
Akpabio stated that the incident was misrepresented and taken out of context, adding that Senator Musa was “neither embarrassed nor unable to respond”.
The Senate President explained that when Senator Musa was called upon, senator Abdul Ningi “raised a point of order that required immediate procedural attention in line with the Sebste rules”.
The Senate President also praising Senator Musa for his role as the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Finance and the Conference Committee.
He said under his leadership the Tax Reform Bills were successfully harmonised, an achievement, according to him, both the chambers and the stakeholders acklowleged.
He added that while the chamber is open to the public, media outlets should make sure their reporting is “rooted in facts and not sensationalism”.
He urged media outlets to adhere to the ethic of responsible journalism when covering the proceedings of the chamber.
